Without my knowledge, I was almost killed yesterday. I was dehydrated.
For religious reason, I need to fast for 4 days in U.S. It is a total big challenge. First, it is not Indonesia, no one fasts. Second, It is summer in U.S., the day lasts longer. Third, this is the hottest summer in the last 12 years
I am from tropical country, Indonesia, when the sun shines almost everyday and dry season lasts for 6 months.
Now I live in Muncie, Indiana, United States for the entire July 2011. It is apparently summer. The first day we came here, the weather was a little bit cool, 78 F, or 26 Celsius. Feels like in Bandung.
Today, it is 96 F! 36 Celsius! Even in Indonesia is never been like this!
The interesting part of this is that I was fasting for religious yesterday, when the weather was almost the same as today. I did not eat, drink, and chew.
Since it is in summer, the day light lasts longer. I fast from 4 AM to 9 PM. 17 hours.
In Indonesia, it is always 14 hours. From 4 AM to 6 PM.
Because I fast for religious reason, I should really make it. I do not realize that I am not the only one feeling this very hot condition. This is a big news for U.S., especially Indiana state.
“I think the thing is a lot of people are not aware that heat is such a killer,” said David Call, a professor and meteorologist at Ball State University to The Star Press (7/22). “Part of it is the deaths tend to be in isolation — a person here, a person there.”
“The current dew point map shows that in the eastern U.S., the highest dew point readings are over Indiana and Kentucky — higher than Florida and Louisiana.”
See? I was almost killed. Alhamdulillah I am survived and living happily ever after. Alhmdulillah ya Allah, kau menguatkanku selama aku puasa atas-Mu. Maha Besar Allah yang Maha Pengasih dan Maha Penyayang.
